Exchange Rate Problem and EGP Devaluation

With the beginning of 2001, new policies were adapted by the monetary authorities to control the Egyptian pound exchange rate against US dollar. These policies aimed at bridging the ever increasing gap between the demand and supply of the US dollar. In order to achieve equilibrium between US demand and supply, the new policy was based on: - raising the USD exchange rate to decrease the market demand - Another measure was taken by the Egyptian Central Bank, who pumped a sum of the foreign currency reserve to supply the banks with their needs of foreign currency.
